| Colonel William O. Darby, after his Ranger Battalion was decimated, took command of the 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment. He then took command of the entire regiment until returning back to the Rangers after Anzio. Col. Darby was originally offered command of the 180th Infantry Regiment in Sicily, but chose to stay with his Rangers. |
