Feb 10, 1941: Inducted into the U.S. Army in Oklahoma City, OK. Served with 45th Division, 179th Regiment, Co. K. Stationed at Ft. Sill, OK; Camp Barkley, TX; Ft. Devins, MA; Pine Camp, NY; Camp Pickett, VA. Overseas deployments; Oran Province, Algeria and Sicily. July 11, 1943: During the allied invasion of Sicily, he was shot in the back of the skull by a German sniper. According to his medical records, he walked two miles to an aid station and did not lose conciousness until on a hospital ship bound for Algeria. March 14, 1944: Honorably discharged at Springfield, MO with the rank of sergeant. Recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. |
